Multilingual learners

We are working to elevate the impact of expanded learning on multilingual learners and develop and promote resources to support multilingual learners and families in expanded learning programs.

why multilingual learners?

60% of California children are multilingual learners (learning two or more languages at the same time). Between 1990 and 2014, the number of multilingual children in the United States grew by 79%. While learning two or more languages is associated with improved cognition, executive function, and social interactions, supporting these students both in and out of school is critical. On average, multilingual learners enter kindergarten behind their peers in language, literacy, and math.
